Southern Walking Programme

From the South Coast, North and South Downs to London and the South East, we have a selection of walks to suit all abilities. You’ll find details of the future walking programme on this page as well as a link to the last 12 months' programme so you can see what you've missed! New members are always welcome!

As we don’t currently publish walk leaders phone numbers, if you see a walk that interests you please email the leader. Where no email address is provided use the contact form and we will put you in touch.

Where a walk involves public transport it is advisable to check the train or bus times beforehand. A packed lunch will be needed unless stated otherwise, although we try to finish most walks with a tea shop / pub stop & sometimes an evening meal.

Saturday 6 SeptemberSHOREHAM-BY-SEA TO HOVE, WEST SUSSEXLeader: Mike B
A 12 mile linear walk in the South Downs from Shoreham to Hove. Pub lunch at Devil's Dyke. Evening meal in Hove.
Meet 11.00 Shoreham Railway Station (09.47 from London Victoria, arrive 10.58). Return by train from Hove.
Saturday 13 SeptemberRINGWOOD AND NEW FOREST, HAMPSHIRELeader: Anthea
A 13 mile circular walk heading north from Ringwood on the Avon Valley Path past Blashford Lake. Then sweep east into the New Forest before returning via the 'Great Linford Inclosure'. Please bring a packed lunch, although there will be an opportunity for an afternoon refreshment stop. Pub meal to finish in Ringwood.
Meet 11.30 at 'Meeting House Lane', National Express Bus Stop (GR. SU148053, next to tourist office), Ringwood (09.00 National Express Coach from London Victoria (arr. 11.05) or 10.40 bus (X3) from Salisbury (arr. 11.21).
Directions to Meeting House Lane: from Southampton, turn left onto B3347 from A31 at Ringwood (first exit off Roundabout). At next small roundabout take third exit (turn right) and park in long stay car park (£5 per day); or suggest park in a street north of A31. Walk across to meeting place.

Saturday 27 SeptemberKNEBWORTH, NEAR STEVENAGE, HERTFORDSHIRELeader: Diana
An 11 mile circular walk in North Hertfordshire, to St Paul's Waldenbury, taking in Knebworth House Country Park, returning through Old Knebworth. Please ring for lunch details.
Meet 10.40 at Knebworth Railway Station (10.06 from Kings Cross, arrive Knebworth 10.38).
Saturday 4 OctoberSOCIAL: WALKING HAUNTED AND NOTORIOUS LONDONLeader: Andrew
Meet 11.00 at Hayes Galleria (5 mins walk from London Bridge station) for a walking tour of London's infamous (well, historically infamous anyway) buildings and locations. Your guide (me) will provide invocative details at each location and guests are invited to bring their own sound effects (e.g. ghostly, blood curling screams, rattling chains, etc). Packed lunch or buy lunch on the day, evening meal in London.
Sunday 5 OctoberROMSEY, HANTSLeader: Karen
A 12 mile walk via Mottisfont Abbey, returning along the Test Way.
Meet 10.30 Romsey Railway Station (10.10 from Southampton Central, arrive 10.24).

A 12 mile walk in the rolling Hampshire countryside. Pub lunch in Wickham.
