Borrowdale Weekend - October 2019

As far as I am concerned this has been a very enjoyable weekend. Before I continue, I would like to give a list of those members who attended. They were: Dave K, Dave P, Mike, Mandy, Sonia, Anthea, Keith, Fiona, Sara, Rod, Alison, Paul, Alan and Greg.

We had dinner at 7.30pm for the 3 days and both the food and accommodation were excellent, as well as the service. Now it is time for me to tell you about the walking.

On Saturday A party did 11 miles up Great Gable while B party did 10 miles which consisted of going up Eagle Crag and Sergeant’s Crag before descending to Langstrath. No problems with the weather but would it last for Sunday?

Unfortunately Sunday’s weather was not going to be very hospitable, but the show must go on. The rain did not stop all day!

For some reason I decided to join the A party. This meant taking the bus to Keswick and walking back by Walla Crag and having a well-earned pub stop in the Scafell hotel. In total we did 10 miles.

For the B party most members did 5 miles. Anthea did the full 8 miles. The party went over the hill behind Glaramara onto the Allendale Ramble, then onto Grange. Anthea carried on walking to Keswick whilst the rest of the party enjoyed tea and cakes in Grange before returning by bus.

We got back to the centre wet and enjoyed a final evening meal before we all returned home Monday morning.

Before I finish I would like to thank many people on behalf of the club. Firstly many thanks to all members of staff of the Glaramara Outdoor Centre for all their help and kindness during the weekend. Secondly thanks to our worthy leaders Paul, Dave and Greg.

But finally on behalf of everyone who attended I would like to give a massive thankyou to Sonia for organising a really enjoyable weekend.

Dave K
