Slaidburn Weekend - February 2020
The group stayed at the Hark to Bounty Inn which is situated in the village of Slaidburn. 11 members attended the weekend: Dave, Jonathan, Paul, Vanda, Sonia, Julian, Debbie, Alison, Marie, Hamida and Chris.
We had dinner at 7.00pm for the two days and on Friday there was a food deal called ‘Fish Friday’ which was good value. Food, accommodation and service was excellent over the weekend.
On Saturday the A party did 11.5 miles which consisted of walking up Totridge Fell to the trigpoint and then to Fiendscale Head and then along Langden Brook back to the cars. Just before we set off walking, a strong gust of wind blew a hat away belonging to a certain member of the club down a steep embankment. After several aborted attempts to find the lost object we decided to start the walk. However, at the end of the walk Julian was able to use his binoculars to locate the missing item and this was successfully retrieved!
Chris kindly drove members of the B party to Dunsop Bridge. This must be the only time in the history of the club that an extension has been put on before the planned walk. 2 miles was done for the pre-walk extension and 8 miles was completed for the main walk. Everyone enjoyed the café at the end. Many thanks to Chris for doing the driving.
After the evening meal, a couple of hours was spent playing a very competitive game of Taboo.
On Sunday the A party did a 13.5 mile walk from Slaidburn to the Stocks Reservoir and back, whilst the B party drove to Stocks Reservoir and did an 8 mile circular walk around the reservoir.
I would like to thank many people on behalf of the club. Firstly, many thanks to all members of staff at the Inn for all their help and kindness during the weekend. Secondly, thanks to all members who led the walks for the weekend. But finally, on behalf of everyone who attended, I would like to give a massive thank you to Jonathan for organising a really enjoyable weekend.
