Windermere Weekend Weekend - November 2013
The venue for our pre-Xmas break was the Windermere Hotel. There have been many changes to the hotel since our last visit in 2000, and though there is still an assumption that all visitors arrive in pairs, the restaurant staff were happy to change the layout of the dining room to a more "sociable" format for us.
On Saturday Julian led 7 'A' party walkers on a 14-mile section of the Kentmere Horseshoe; quite an achievement given the short hours of daylight. Peter's 'B' group caught a bus to Kendal then walked back to the hotel along the river Kent and the Dales Way. Both groups were treated to a glorious spectacle in the late afternoon as the setting sun briefly lit up the clouds in shades of orange, pink and red.
On Sunday Julian led a smaller group up Red Screes from Ambleside. The 'B' Party outing featured a guest leader - Chris's brother Nick, who lives and works in Windermere - and visited Far Sawrey via Bowness and the car ferry.
Thanks to Chris for organising the weekend, and to Julian and Peter (and Nick!) for leading the walks.
