Grange-Over-Sands Weekend - March 2014
22 of us arrived on Friday night at the Cumbria Grand Hotel, where the group had previously enjoyed a weekend 4 years ago. The hotel was very comfortable, with beautiful views over the bay, and the food good and plentiful (one member making particular use of the 'eat as many main courses as you like' style evening buffet!).
On Saturday the A party took a 16.5 mile route up Hampsfell along to High Cark, along the ridge to Cartmel (tea shop and beer tasting) and back to Grange. The B walk was an 11 mile route taking in Hampsfell, Cartmel, Cark, Allithwaite and Kents Bank, with café stops at Cartmel and Kents Bank. The weather was good, and remained so all weekend. In the evening we were joined by Jennifer and her friend Kath, and by Mark and Sue who were on holiday nearby and came for the evening meal. Afterwards, Chris provided a slide show of recent Footprints weekends and holidays.
On Sunday both groups took the train to Arnside. The A walk (featuring Pilates instruction from Hamida) covered 11 miles up Arnside Knott, along the coast to Silverdale, up Warton Crag then ending up at the excellent tea shop at Leighton Moss RSPB reserve before taking the train back. The B walk was a 10 mile circular from Arnside taking in Arnside Knott, Arnside Tower & Holgates caravan site continuing to Leighton Moss for lunch. The return was via Silverdale village and The Cove, then following the shore of Morecambe Bay via Far Arnside back to Arnside.
8 members stayed over on Sunday night and woke up to a day of full sunshine. People spent the morning either walking or relaxing before heading off home.
Thanks to Peter for organising the weekend and leading the B walks, Julian for leading the A walks and Chris for the slide show.
