Cromford Weekend - May 2014
Footprints returned to Wilersley Castle in Cromford for the 2014 AGM weekend. Overlooking the River Derwent the Hotel has excellent views and was originally the home of Sir Richard Arkwright who built the first cotton mill factory.
Saturday was wet as we walked out on the Midshires Way and returned along the Cromford canal. This was followed by the AGM with only 14 of us.
On Sunday there was heavy rain so the morning walk on the High Peak trail was cancelled, some of us tried out the hotel's smart indoor swimming pool, this is in an external building at the top of the grounds. Sunday lunch followed. The sun came out and we did a circular walk taking in Matlock Dale, Matlock, Matlock Baths and High Tor. Peter had obtained a key for the hotel's river path gate which leads onto Matlock Baths Derwent Gardens. I was surprised how close Matlock Bath is, this would be an excellent route to a pub on another visit.
5 of us stayed on for Sunday night when we discovered Peter's skill at scrabble.
Thank you Peter for organising this break at short notice, this was a good Hotel and location.
