Southern Area Walks

From the South Coast, North and South Downs to the Chilterns and all points in between, we have a selection of walks to suit all abilities. You’ll find details of the future walking programme on this page as well as a link to the last 12 months' programme so you can see what you've missed!

Non-members are welcome to ’try us out’ on a couple of day walks before deciding to join, but we ask you to check with the leader first. Click on the leader’s name to send an email. Where no email address is given use the contact form and we will put you in touch.

Where a walk involves public transport it is advisable to check the train or bus times beforehand. A packed lunch will be needed unless stated otherwise, although we try to finish most walks with a tea shop / pub stop.

UPDATED 24th August. While there are now no legal restrictions on our activities, we need to follow the Ramblers guidance as part of our insurance conditions. The following rules therefore apply to group walks:

Saturday 2 OctoberMANOR PARK TO ILFORD, EAST LONDONLeader: Dave
A 9 mile walk via the wildlife sanctuaries of Wansted Flats and Park, and Valentines Park. Café lunch and 2 tea stops, including afternoon tea at the leader’s house after the walk.
Meet 10.45 Manor Park Station (Regular trains - every 10 minutes - from Liverpool Street, journey time 15 mins). Return from Ilford Station (3 minute train ride from Manor Park). For those driving, Clements Road multi-storey car park is 200m from Ilford Station.
Saturday 9 OctoberHASLEMERE, SURREYLeader: Greg
New walk. A 10 mile circular walk via Hindhead and the Devil’s Punch Bowl. Café lunch.
Meet 10.30 Haslemere Station (09.30 from London Waterloo, arrive 10.20 or 10.03 from Havant, arrive 10.30). Haslemere Station car park £3-50 (GU27 1DB).
Saturday 16 OctoberWELHAM GREEN TO NEWGATE STREET, HERTSLeader: Eva & Brian
A 10 mile circular walk from Eva’s house to Newgate Street village and surrounding area. Pub lunch.
Meet 10.30 at Eva’s house. If travelling by train, 10.03 from Moorgate or 10.17 from Finsbury Park, arr. Welham Green 10.44 - we will collect anyone from the station.
Saturday 23 OctoberBALCOMBE, WEST SUSSEXLeader: Nick
A completely new 10 mile circular around Balcombe, including paths not previously used. Please ring for lunch details.
Meet 10.35 Balcombe Station (09.45 from London Bridge, arrive 10.25 OR 10.12 from Brighton, arrive 10.34).
Saturday 30 OctoberKEMSING, KENTLeader: Hilary
A 9 mile circular walk partly through woodland to take account of the autumn colours via Oldbury Wood. Packed lunch.
Meet 10.40 Kemsing Station (09.55 from London Victoria, arrive 10.36).
A meal at the King Charles pub in Kings Worthy followed by the Winchester Bonfire & Fireworks display.
