Southern Area Walks
From the South Coast, North and South Downs to the Chilterns and all points in between, we have a selection of walks to suit all abilities. You’ll find details of the future walking programme on this page as well as a link to the last 12 months' programme so you can see what you've missed!
Non-members are welcome to ’try us out’ on a couple of day walks before deciding to join, but we ask you to check with the leader first. Click on the leader’s name to send an email. Where no email address is given use the contact form and we will put you in touch.

Where a walk involves public transport it is advisable to check the train or bus times beforehand. A packed lunch will be needed unless stated otherwise, although we try to finish most walks with a tea shop / pub stop.

|Saturday 25 January||LOUGHTON TO EPPING, ESSEX||Leader: Hilary|
|An 8½ mile linear walk from Loughton to Epping through the ancient woodland of Epping Forest in the morning and then through open countryside and farmland in the afternoon. Please contact the leader for lunch details.|
Meet 10.30 Loughton Station (Central Line). Return from Epping station. Loughton and Epping are both in Travel Zone 6 so you will need an appropriate travel or Oyster card for your journey.
|Saturday 15 February||YALDING, KENT||Leader: Chris|
|An 8 mile circular walk which follows the River Medway in the morning, coming to a 16th century bridge and a 15c church. Pub lunch at The Tickled Trout. The highlight of the walk may be Teapot Island, serving great cakes and tea but it also has the largest collection of tea pots in the country. An easy walk.|
Meet 10.20 Yalding Station (09.10 from Charing Cross, arrive Tonbridge 09.51; change & depart 10.04, arrive Yalding 10.18).

|A 9 mile walk through rural Hertfordshire, taking in a nature reserve and an old railway line (the ‘Nickey Line’). Pub lunch.|

|A 10 mile linear walk from Pangbourne via Crays Pond to Goring-on-Thames through the southern edge of the Chiltern Hills. Pub lunch at The Sun in Whitchurch Hill.|
Meet 10.30 Pangbourne Station (09.27 from London Paddington, arrive 10.30). Return from Goring & Streatley Station. Buy return to Goring & Streatley.

|An 11 mile linear walk from West Wittering to Chichester following the Chichester Creek and the Chichester Canal. Packed lunch at Chichester Marina. |
Meet 10.40 Chichester Station (09.06 from London Victoria, arrive 10.37). We will catch the bus from the Station to West Wittering where the walk starts.

|A 10 mile circular walk via Winnall Moors Nature Reserve and the upper Itchen Valley. Pub lunch at The Plough, Itchen Abbas. Afternoon tea at the leader’s home in Kings Worthy.|
Meet 10.35 Winchester Station (09.35 from London Waterloo, arrive 10.32). Return by bus from Kings Worthy to Winchester.

|A 12 mile linear walk from Arundel to Pulborough via Amberley and Amberley Brooks. Pub / café lunch. Potential drop out point at lunch time at Amberley station after 5 miles.|
Meet 11.05 Arundel Station (09.36 from London Victoria, arrive 11.01). Return from Pulborough Station.

|An 11½ mile circular walk through the High Weald. Cafe lunch at the picturesque Hawkhurst Fish Farm. The highlight of this walk is arriving at Bodiam Castle for tea. |
