Ilkley – 28th March – 1st April 2024

The club stayed at the Craiglands Hotel outside the centre of Ilkley. The weekend was organised by Peter Mann. The club has previously been to the hotel a number of times and it has proven to be an excellent place to stay. 15 members stayed at the hotel and 3 members stayed at a local B and B.

In the evenings we had dinner at 7.00 pm which consisted of a 3 course meal with tea and coffee afterwards. On Friday we had a quiz well put together by Debbie and Jonathan. On Saturday we were given a concert by an Elton John tribute act and a disco. On Sunday we had a slide show featuring photographs of club holidays to places abroad.

On Friday and Saturday the group was divided into A and B groups. On Friday the B party walked to Addingham. This was via the Millennium Way with a descent down to Addingham. We visited the parish church and where treated to Peter playing the organ. Some took the bus back while others walked along the Dales Way back to the hotel. It was excellent to see an old club member, Martin, who walked in the morning. 7 to 10 miles were completed dependent on whether you walked or took the bus.

On Saturday we took the bus to Pool Bank. The route was Otley Chevin to Menston and back by Ilkley Moor making 10 miles in total. The A party climbed up to Cow and Calf Rocks then over to the Swastika Stone then to Addingham along the River Wharf. The walk was led by Jonathan. On Saturday Ian led the B walk with an exploration of the high ground to the north of Ilkley.

On Sunday Jonathan and I jointly led a walk around Malham. We visited Gordale Scar then up to Malham Tarn and back via Malham Cove. This was a total of 8 miles.

In conclusion I believe the club had an extremely successful break, brilliant walking weather and the hotel and food were first rate. I’m sure the walks were enjoyed by all.

I would like to thank the following people: Debbie and Jonathan for organising the quiz and the walk leaders Peter, Ian and Jonathan. On behalf of the club I would especially like to thank Peter for organising a fantastic weekend.
